SKW Gymnastics Academy A Success - Friday, 01 July 2011

On 22 and 23 July 2011 the SKW Gymnastics Academy with financial support from FNB Namibia hosted the national qualifying competition rhythmic gymnastics.  According to Yvonne Schadee gymnasts from Tsumeb, Walvis Bay, Swakopmund and 2 clubs in Windhoek participated in this successful competition.

Ingrid Goeieman of FNB Namibia was proud of the N$ 25 000 sponsorship that the bank gave and said: "The Gymnasts ranged in ages from five to eighteen years and competed in various levels from the beginners in Level 1 to the Senior Olympic girls. The gymnasts also made use of a variety of apparatus, including Free Dance, Rope, Hoop, Ball, Clubs and Ribbon. It was a wonderful two days."

For the first time in a number of years the accomplished High Performance squad boasts a record number of 20 gymnasts. The competition was compulsory for all gymnasts wishing to qualify to compete at the National Championships later this year. It also served as a Trial for the NGF team which will participate at the SA Games in Cape Town in September/October.

Schadee added: "The organization of such an event, which lasts over a full one and a half days is no easy task and incurs considerable expenses. The hosting hereof by the SKW Gymnastics Academy is in large part only possible due to the generous sponsorship provided by FNB. SKW GA wishes to thank the FNB sincerely for their continued interest in our sport, and support thereof, for the past years."
26.01.2012 - Strength, grace, flexibility and co-ordination – this is SKW gymnastics

SINCE the recent start of the school year, the SKW Gymnastics Academy classes have been in full swing for women’s artistic and rhythmic gymnastics.

This year, a beginner’s class for general gymnastics has also received considerable interest. Twice weekly numerous enthusiastic and excited 4 to 6 year olds spend time in the gym.

These children learn basic skills including balance, coordination, strength, grace and concentration among others. In due course, the coaches together with the children and their parents, will identify which form of gymnastics each gymnast will focus on.

SKW GA’s three qualified coaches, two of whom have international university coaching qualifications plus many years of international experience, present classes on a daily basis for girls aged 4 and older.

The club offers both rhythmic gymnastics (RG) and women’s artistic gymnastics (WAG) training from entry level (beginners), up to High Performance gymnasts. These are elite gymnasts representing their club, the Namibia Gymnastics Federation and even their country in international competitions.

As the most successful RG club in Namibia, and with its fast-growing and increasingly successful WAG section, the club is proud to consistently show excellent results at both national and international levels.

About 90% of the national rhythmic gymnastics squad are gymnasts from SKW, which is also the first club in Namibia with a gymnast who competed at the Rhythmic Gymnastics World Championships, in 2009, 2010 and 2011.

Its gymnasts have won numerous medals at prestigious events, including the South African championships, Namibia national championships and the Zone 6 championships in both the women’s artistic and rhythmic sections.

SKW Gymnastics Academy scores - 25 Oct 2012 - Story by Staff Reporter New Era

WINDHOEK – Local financial giants FNB Namibia handed over an amount of N$25 000 to the SKW Gymnastics Academy for the national qualifying competition at a special function in Windhoek recently.
Ingrid Goeieman, manager of sponsorships at FNB Namibia said the bank has been a supporter of gymnastics in Namibia over numerous years.
“FNB Namibia not only concentrates on those sport codes that draw big crowds and are the most popular amongst our people. We also look at sport codes that are smaller and yet unique and also need a bit of support.
“We are partners with tennis, table tennis as well as gymnastics and are extremely proud of these partnerships, as all these sport codes are administered and run professionally and ethically. Sports support remains a vital component of our sponsorship policy and we will continue with this in future as well.”
Yvonne Schadee of the SKW Gymnastics Academy thanked FNB Namibia for its unwavering and generous support and added, “Without FNB Namibia our sports would not have grown and been as successful as it is. Not only are we able to stage championships because of the sponsorship of FNB Namibia. We have also been able to purchase much needed equipment and for that we are grateful.”
